Indila
With her richly diverse Algerian, Cambodian, Egyptian and Indian origins, Indila describes herself as “a child of the world”. She expresses this diversity in music in her album Mini World. Her own individual mix of oriental sounds, pop melodies and French variety music highlights her multiple sources of inspiration, delineating a musical map of global dimensions.

And drawing on an extensive repertoire has only boosted Indila’s success: she has already sold more than 650 000 albums and was awarded the title of female musical revelation of 2014 for her first single in France. Read on for a closer look at the various artists who influenced this “child of the world”

Indila in a few words

Little is known about Indila’s life, and the singer delights in keeping her life path a secret.

Above all, this “child of the world” is a child of Paris where she was born into a family with a real love for music and where she discovered her passion for writing and singing at a very early age.

She made her debut on the urban scene as half of a duo, working with such French rappers as Soprano, Rohff and NessBeal in 2010 and 2011. But she was truly revealed to the public in 2012 through her collaboration with Youssoupha on the song “Dreamin”, which revealed her vocal signature; the music video has garnered over 20 million views on YouTube to date.

The duets produced by Skalpovich also marked the start of a collaboration in tandem with this singer-songwriter and DJ. Together they form a true musical duo: Skalpovich composes and produces her tracks while Indila creates the lyrics and melodies.

This first album signed with the Capitol Records label features an unclassifiable style – a mix of world music, pop and French variety, through which she breaks free from the narrow restrictions of traditional genres. Her Mini World released in February 2014 was a huge success that was a triple platinum-selling album in France and a gold album in Belgium. Her reputation was also firmly established on the Internet with a total of 126 million views on YouTube for her first solo single “Dernière Danse”.

In March 2014, Indila announced that she was working on a second album.
