«Women and men» : the movie screened at the United Nations

Focus
March 6, 2015

On March 8th, on the occasion of International Women’s Day, the documentary « Women and men » (« Des femmes et des hommes » in French) will be screen at the United Nations in Geneva and New-York. Directed by journalist and founder of The Humble Heroes Frédérique Bedos, this feature raises awareness of the many benefits of the fundamental right to equality for all.

In a declaration in 2013, United Nations Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon, United Nations Secretary-General, also expressing himself in this documentary, shared his vision of a step back in women’s rights globally. Why such a regress? This alarming observation was the starting point for journalist Frédérique Bedos to investigate and make a movie to establish a picture of gender inequality in the world in various fields - rights, culture, education, economy, religion, discriminations and so on.
From Paris to Geneva, stopping by Oxford or even Cairo, realities are different but these powerful testimonies given by all these personalities, known in their specific fields - such as the conductor Zahia Ziouani for example - are edifying.  This film is a powerful account of how women's lives worldwide are profoundly impacted by gender discrimination, and how it holds back social and economic progress globally.  The screening at the United Nations on March 8th, on the occasion of International Women’s day is a good reminder.

The film is produced by Le Projet Imagine  - The Humble Heroes with the participation of UN Women, CEDAW,  FAO and the Ministère français des droits de femmes.

The Humble Heroes Project is a "philanthropic media" created by journalis and director Frédérique Bedos. Totally independent, this media is funded exclusively by donations. The idea is to focus the spotlights on the "Humble Heroes", those who are modestly doing good works for the people around them. Our ambition is to provoke the commitment of the viewers in the big adventure of "Build the Best together".
